Fauvism, led by Henri Matisse and André Derain in the early 20th century, was one of the first modern art movements to break away from realism. Known as “les fauves” or “the wild beasts”, these artists embraced vivid, non-naturalistic colors, simplified forms, and strong brushstrokes to express raw emotion rather than accurate depiction. Their works radiated spontaneity, joy, and an untamed sense of freedom.
Brought into portraiture, Fauvism turns your pet into a bold harmony of saturated hues and expressive lines — a lively, colorful artwork that captures personality through emotion and energy, rather than literal realism.
All orders include a preview sent via email within 1–2 days.
Every Fauvism Style Portrait is handcrafted by Maya.S and her team, ensuring bold originality and authentic artistry.

Maya (b. 1985, United States)
Maya’s work is defined by her devotion to heavy impasto, acrylics, and the expressive power of post-impressionist brushwork. Trained at a leading international art school, she refined her craft during her tenure at a major museum, where she supported exhibitions and supervised the presentation of oil paintings.
Later, at Abrams Books, she contributed to art publications that emphasized the tactile qualities of paint and the vitality of color on the page. These experiences continue to inform her practice, where bold texture and luminous palettes serve as her signature.
At Jon’s Canvas, Maya leads the Fauvism Style, Acrylic, and Van Gogh-inspired Style, translating the intensity of layered pigment into portraits of pets that are at once intimate and emotionally resonant.
